British Ski and Snowboard School in Champoluc
Ski 2 - Run by Skiers, for Skiers
Our acclaimed Ski and Snowboard School in Champoluc (exclusive to Ski 2 clients) has been developed specifically for snowsports enthusiasts who are looking to enhance existing skills, as well as learning exciting new ones. The ski school is managed by Simon Brown, co-owner of Ski 2 and a resident in Italy for the winter months. Simon is a BASI Grade 1 Ski Teacher and has taught skiing around the world for over 25 years, the last 20 in his ‘adopted’ home, Italy.
Simon has been a member of the Daily Mail Ski and Snowboard magazine test team on several occasions and has helped test over 70 pairs of the latest Freeride and new skis, bringing his knowledge and expertise of the latest products bang up to date. The new ‘freeride’ sensation is here to stay and the Ski 2 Ski and Snowboard School will help clients experience a whole host of new sliding sensations this coming winter.

Ski Teachers
We employ British B.A.S.I (British Association of Ski Instructors) qualified ski teachers, some resident in Champoluc for the winter , supplemented by local English-speaking Italian ‘maestri’ (native to Champoluc and with unrivalled knowledge of this vast ski area ). Our instructors experience and enthusiasm for the sport, coupled with their ability to provide a safe, fun learning environment will ensure a fantastic learning experience for Ski 2 clients, whether novice recreational skiers or expert off-piste riders.
Whatever your age or ability, our friendly, patient and professional staff will help you ‘improve on the move’ – we believe skiing is best taught by doing it, rather than spending hours side-stepping up and down on the same piste.
Ski 2 Ski Courses
In Champoluc, we offer a wide range of ski and snowboard lesson options tailored to suit your exact needs. Whether you are looking for the ultimate learing experience with a one-to-one lesson with a private instructor, or would prefer to share your time on the piste with other skiers of a similar age and standard in one of our group lessons, we guarantee that our experienced, friendly instructors will help you make the most of your time in Champoluc.
Recreational
Especially tailored to suit the requirements of the novice to lower intermediate skier, clients will be introduced to the basic foundational skills of skiing. The long easier runs of Monterosa are perfect for an exciting and exhilarating introduction to the sport and by the 3rd or 4th day of the holiday most clients will be able to enjoy the long cruising run from Champoluc into the Gressoney Valley (and back of course!!). We use video twice weekly to capture those fun moments and evening appraisal sessions are available in hotels.
All Mountain Intermediate / Advanced
"How do I carve a turn on these new skis?" The million dollar question asked by 1000’s of skiers each season, especially those who have tried the new ‘carving skis’. When ‘carving’ a turn, all sideways movement of the ski (skidding) is eliminated. The ski glides forwards on the edge throughout the whole arc of the turn. Not an easy skill to perform, in fact, up until recently, a skill performed only by expert skiers and racers. Now, modern ski design and construction has radically changed this. The new carving or ‘shaped’ skis can now carve a turn at lower speeds and good intermediate skiers - with a little guidance from a ski teacher of course - are now able to perform a whole host of new sliding sensations and higher level skills. Our courses start with an introduction to the performance characteristics of the new skis followed by easy to understand explanations and demonstrations of the skills involved.
All Mountain Expert
The pistes of Monterosa cover perhaps only 30% of the skiable terrain. Wide plateaus, long powder fields, narrow gullies and scenic descents through the trees to small hamlets are all available to those skiers who have the skill to cope with all types of terrain and challenging snow conditions. Our courses start with an introduction to the most important aspect of all terrain skiing-mountain safety-a subject which is covered daily and is always our number one priority. As the week progresses so will the client’s confidence and ability to ski runs they had only dreamed of before. At our ski hire in Champoluc, all the latest skis are available to try on a daily basis-fat ones, short ones, fun carvers, freeride and new school. As part of the course we utilise this ‘new’ equipment to introduce the different skills necessary to cope with varied terrain. We demonstrate how to ski powder, cut through 'windpack' and 'crud' and how to cope with steep gullies and bumps.

Important information about group ski school .........
Our beginner group lessons are aimed at those that have no or little ski experience on snow and are unable to perform linked snowplough turns. This might include very apprehensive skiers who may have skied before but didn’t achieve as much as they would have hoped, or those that have skied on artificial ski slopes but never on snow. Those joining our group lessons for intermediates / advanced should be able to ski confidently on a blue run doing linked turns as a minimum. Although we offer the same lesson options for adults and children, we group each class according to age and skiing ability wherever possible. The definition of a ‘beginner’ or intermediate/advanced’ skier – as detailed above – is the same for adults and children. Please note that we reserve the right to determine the skiing standard of those booked in to our ski school and to allocate a class level accordingly. In the unlikely event that there isn’t an appropriate class available, we will refund monies paid in full, or allocate a mutually agreeable period of private lessons.

"I had major surgery which involved a metal plate being bolted onto my spine at my neck to hold it together. I had to stay well away from skiing for a long time but was desperate to get back to it. My confidence was pretty shaky; what would happen to me if I fell? Through Ski 2 I arranged for lessons at Champoluc. My instructor, Jacqui, patiently and expertly worked on my technique so that I became a much more controlled and stable skier. Within 3 days I was happily sailing down black runs. I would recommend anyone at any level to check out Ski 2 and the tuition available. It makes the difference between gritted teeth and a huge smile."
Mr G. F.
